The ITIL Anecdote
During
the late 1980's, ITIL (IT Infrastructure
Library) became the worldwide de-facto
standard in IT Service Management.
Starting as a guide for the UK
Government, the framework proved to be useful to other IT Organizations
and was adopted as the bases
for consultancy, education and
software tool support. Today ITIL®
is known and used worldwide.
The Office of Government
Commerce (OGC) is an office
of the HM Treasury. In September
2000, the OGC has tendered
a contract to manage the
ITIL®V3 examination process. This was won by APM Group from
the UK. Now ISEB and EXIN
who were the dominent players
for ITIL have an agreement
with APMG to continue offering
ITIL®V3 exams and accreditation
for ITIL®.
Today ITIL® is prominent in the IT service management space
and recently updated to ITIL®V3 in Jun 2007. The new ITIL®V3
has taken on a lifecycle approach starting from the strategy, design,
transition, operations and
finally continual improve.
